SAMR Model Introduction - 9/8/15
"One-size Fits All" doesn't work for today's learner. Personalized learning lets teachers tailor learning objectives to individuals (individualized instruction) as well as in how students do their best learning (differentiation). Teachers in effective digital classrooms use technology to give students what they need, when and how they best learn.
Today we will focus on understanding how the SAMR Model can aid our focus in planning and implementation of technology integration as we embark on our digital conversion.

Homework: Watch 2 of the video clips below, one within your content area and another of your choice. Complete the "Classroom in Action Video Analysis" (make digital copy in your own Google Drive and edit or print).
Warm-Up: Identify one question & one Ah-Ha/Surprise/Love! from the homework. Post in the Linoit below as you get settled.
Mini Lesson: What is the SAMR Model of Technology Integration?
For a more detailed explanation from students click here.
Activity 1: SAMR Sort
- In your group, discuss the lessons and activities on the cards. Decide where on the spectrum of technology integration you would place them and why. Put them under the appropriate SAMR headers.
- As a whole table, discuss:
- What was most difficult about this activity? How confident were you in your sorting?
- Is there a "right" or "wrong" answer for each lesson? Explain.
Activity 2: Iron Chef Personalized Learning Scenarios
Successful teachers personalize their classrooms by using technology effectively to differentiate for ability, interests and learning styles. What opportunities exist to personalize in the diverse classrooms we face daily?
- Your table will pull 1 student card (pink), 1 learning objective card (green) and 3 tool or instructional cards (yellow) to determine your "classroom".
- Using the cards, brainstorm how the teacher can personalize the learning in this scenario.
